Remover (Threaded T-Puller) (2-Pack) – for Ebbe Pro Drain Covers

I bought the 2-key set to use on the corner hole of my Ebbe drain, and for some reason, I use it in the 4 corner holes and the plastic “key” will not screw down into any of these holes. What’s the trick? Doe I have an older drain? I have used a hex wrench with the 90 degree turn with locking pliers to pull it up, and it came up. It has the hair catchers and they do a great job, but it’s a hassle to use the wrench method to pull the drain up. I thought it would be easier to use the “screw”. The threading seems to narrow to get between the metal hole edges. What gives?
